Massage chairs, measured before you buy

A massage chair is a recliner fitted with motorised rollers for the back and air cells that squeeze the arms, legs and feet. Merit Home Furniture lists seven, all made by Cozzia, from $4,199 for the Radiance to $16,549 for the Quantum, before applicable taxes. The guides here work through what each step up the price list buys, whether a chair fits your body and your doorway, and who should ask a doctor first. A call ahead tells you which of the seven are set up at the showroom nearest you.

Questions Islanders ask

Short answers, and the guide behind each

Are massage chairs actually worth it?

That depends on how often you'd sit in one. Spread over five years at three sessions a week, the $4,199 Radiance works out to about $5.38 a session and the $16,549 Quantum to about $21. The arithmetic for all seven is set out in what a massage chair costs per session.

Which massage chair should I buy in Canada?

No single chair suits every body. Your height and weight, the room and how often you'd use it narrow the field. Cozzia's limits are about 5 ft 2 to 6 ft 3 and 300 lb, or 264 lb on the Radiance. Our seven are held up against those checks in the seven Cozzia chairs, compared.

How much does a massage chair cost?

At Merit, $4,199 for the Radiance up to $16,549 for the Quantum, before applicable taxes, and five of the seven sit under Cozzia Canada's suggested retail. Delivery from our Duncan store is $150 across the Island, and that price covers assembly. Each model's price is in what a massage chair costs in Canada.

Will a massage chair fit through my door?

The chairs are 29.1 to 32 inches wide, and four of the seven arrive in a box more than 32 inches across at its narrowest. What to measure is the tightest gap between the front step and the room, with each door swung wide, plus any turn at the top of the stairs. Box sizes and weights have a guide of their own: fitting a massage chair through the door.

Can I try a massage chair before I buy one?

Where one is set up, yes, and a call first tells you which of the seven are there. After that, a full program on the lowest intensity, with nobody standing over you, settles more than a spec sheet can. How a trial goes is written up in trying a massage chair on the Island.

Are massage chairs good for you?

HealthLink BC, the province's health information service, says massage may relieve muscle tension, and that people use it to help them relax. It lists a blood clot, a bleeding disorder, blood thinners and recent surgery among the times massage isn't advised. Cozzia's manual adds a pacemaker and pregnancy to the reasons for a word with your doctor first. The full list is in massage chairs and your health.
