Trying a massage chair before buying is the one test that shows whether the rollers meet your shoulders, the footrest reaches your feet and the strongest setting suits you. A spec sheet can tell you none of that.
On Vancouver Island, Merit Home Furniture sells seven Cozzia chairs through our Duncan store, priced from $4,199 to $16,549 before applicable taxes. Which of them are set up to sit in changes, so call (250) 746-5527 and ask before you make the drive.
A useful trial is one full program in one chair. Cozzia lists a maximum massage time of 30 minutes on the Canadian product page of each of the seven, so a single program never runs longer than that.
Is trying a massage chair before buying necessary?
Trying a massage chair before buying matters more than it does with a sofa, for three reasons. The chair has to fit your body, the massage has to suit your tolerance, and sending one back is heavy work.
Fit comes first. Cozzia says its models "are designed to fit anyone approximately 5’2″ to 6’3″ in height," and that select premium models with a longer footrest reach 6’5″. Near either end of that range, the shoulder and calf positions may not line up. That is why roughly how tall you are is the first thing to tell us.
Intensity is personal, and a description of rollers or airbags cannot tell you how hard they press on you. The only fair judge of the strongest setting is your own back.
Then there is the weight. Cozzia lists the Radiance at 171 lb and the Zen Duo at 272 lb, before any packaging. A chair that heavy is hard work to move once, and nobody wants to move it twice.
Our invoices say all sales are final. In practice we encourage exchanges for up to 30 days and handle returns case by case. A chair ordered in specially for you takes a 24% deposit.
Sitting in the chair first costs nothing and settles the fit question before any money changes hands.
Where can I try a massage chair on Vancouver Island?
Our Cozzia massage chairs are sold through the Duncan store, at 107 Ingram St in downtown Duncan. It is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and closed Sunday. Online orders are handled from Duncan as well.
The Duncan floor is made up of display models, and the chairs out at any one time change. A short call tells you which ones are there that week, so nobody drives an hour for a chair that is not plugged in.
Merit also has stores in Nanaimo, Campbell River and Port Alberni. For massage chairs, start with Duncan, since that is where the Cozzia range is sold. Addresses, hours and phone numbers for all four stores sit in one guide.
If the drive is long, each chair's page on the Merit site lists our price and Cozzia's dimensions. We can also go through height, weight and room size on the phone first.
What size massage chair do I need, and how do the seven compare on fit?
The size that matters is the reclined length, plus the gap the chair needs between its back and the wall. Cozzia publishes both on its Canadian product pages. The prices are ours, read on October 9, 2026, before applicable taxes.
| Chair | Price | Rollers | Reclined length | Wall gap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Radiance | $4,199 | 2D | 66.2 in | 6 in |
| Bliss ProFlex | $4,749 | 2D + 2D | 68.9 in | 11 in |
| Fusion Pro | $5,549 | 2D + 2D | 75.4 in | 11 in |
| Zen 2 | $6,649 | 3D | 73.6 in | 6 in |
| Zen Duo | $9,799 | 3D + 3D | 79.5 in | 3.5 in |
| Qi XE Pro Duo | $14,349 | 4D + 4D | 78 in | 8 in |
| Quantum | $16,549 | 5D | 74.4 in | 1 in |
Add the reclined length to the wall gap for the floor depth a chair takes up. The Zen Duo needs about 83 inches from the wall, and the Radiance about 72.
On weight, Cozzia's FAQ says its chairs "can safely hold up to 300 LBS" each. The product pages list 320 lb for six models and 264 lb for the Radiance. We work from the lower figures: 300 lb, and 264 lb for the Radiance.
The rollers column is what a trial teaches you most about. A 2D roller travels up, down and across the back, while a 3D roller also reaches forward into it. Cozzia calls the Qi XE Pro Duo's rollers 4D and the Quantum's 5D, and a "+" means two separate mechanisms.
How to test a massage chair in the showroom
Testing a massage chair well takes a plan, because a few pleasant minutes on the default program tells you very little. These are the steps I'd follow in any chair.
- Call ahead. Ask which chairs are set up that day, and say if a second person will use the chair at home.
- Bring three measurements. The narrowest door on the way to the room, the hallway width, and the wall where the chair will go.
- Sit all the way back first. Head on the headrest, before pressing start, so the body scan sets the shoulder line where your shoulders actually are.
- Start at the lowest intensity. Turn it up one step at a time, and stop a step short of uncomfortable.
- Check three zones. Shoulders and neck, then lower back and seat, then calves and feet. Each should feel like it was aimed at you.
- Recline to zero gravity. That is the position with the legs raised level with the heart. Check that your feet reach the foot rollers without stretching.
- Listen. Motors and airbags make noise. Picture the sound with the television on, and with someone asleep in the next room.
- Hand over the remote. The person who shares the room should sit through a program too.
How long should a massage chair trial take?
One full program is long enough to judge a chair, and Cozzia's timers stop at 30 minutes anyway. Its FAQ adds that a deep tissue program "should generally not exceed 30 minutes" in one sitting. If you want to try a second chair the same day, its gentlest setting gives the fairer comparison.
Afterwards, notice how your back feels that evening and the next morning. For relaxing programs, Cozzia says the right length depends on "comfort and how you feel the next day."
Where a massage chair trial in a store can mislead you
A showroom trial answers the fit question well. A few things it cannot tell you are worth knowing before you sit down.
- One session is not a month. Cozzia warns that trying to fix chronic issues in one day can bring "muscle fatigue and soreness" instead. A chair that feels strong on day one can feel different by week three.
- The store is not your room. A chair with a 1 inch wall gap still needs an outlet within reach and a clear path for the footrest as it extends.
- Clothes change the feel. A thick sweater blunts the rollers. A thin shirt gives you a truer read.
- Some bodies sit outside the range. Above about 6’3″ or over 300 lb, a trial still helps, but tell us first so we can point you to the chairs with the most room.
Health comes before any trial. HealthLink BC, on massage in general, says it "isn't a good idea to get a massage" with "a blood clot in a vein" or after "a recent surgery". Blood thinners are on its list too, among other cases. We've gathered Cozzia's advice on who should check with a doctor first. If any of it applies to you, please ask your doctor before the trial and tell us before you sit down.
After the trial: what a massage chair costs to bring home
Each of the seven chairs shows its price online, to the cent, before applicable taxes.
Our Duncan store charges $150 to deliver a chair across the Island, assembly included. Some Gulf Islands can be served too; ask the Duncan store for details. Pickup at the Duncan store is free. We offer financing!* Fairstone® is the lender that carries it.
Merit backs Cozzia's warranty on each of the seven, orders the parts and does the repairs. Ask about the lead time for the chair you choose when you call.
Feeling overwhelmed by seven chairs?
Start with two filters before the trial: the price band you are comfortable with and the floor depth your room allows. That usually leaves two or three chairs. Try those, and compare all seven, with measurements once you are home. Every massage chair article we have written is collected in one place.
*On approved credit. Terms and conditions apply. An annual fee will be charged to your account as set out in the Retail Credit Agreement. See our Financing page for more details about our plans.

Booking a massage chair trial in Duncan
Call the Duncan store, say you would like to try the massage chairs, and ask which are set up that day. If you would like me there for it, ask for Michael. The chairs are also listed online, and the Cozzia collection has the same seven.
