Every Cozzia chair Merit Home Furniture sells is 29.1 to 32 inches wide out of its box. Unpacked, each one passes a door with more than 32 inches of clear gap. The boxes are the harder part. Four of the seven ship in a box wider than 32 inches, and none of those fits through a front door built to the BC Building Code minimum.
A massage chair fits through a door when the narrowest gap on the route, measured with the door open, is wider than the chair or its box. That one number settles most of the question. Below are the widths, box sizes and weights from Cozzia's own manuals for the massage chairs Merit carries, the door and hallway sizes BC allows, and the floor each chair needs once it's in the room.
Will a massage chair fit through a standard door in BC?
A standard BC door is usually wide enough for an unboxed massage chair and often too narrow for a boxed one. Part 9 of the BC Building Code sets the minimum for a new home. The main entrance has to take a door at least 810 mm wide, about 31.9 inches. Rooms the table doesn't name, such as bedrooms and living rooms, need a 760 mm door, about 29.9 inches. A bathroom door can be 610 mm, about 24 inches.
Those are door sizes, and the gap a chair passes through is smaller. The code's accessibility section measures clear width from the face of the door, standing open at 90 degrees, to the outside edge of the stop on the frame. The open door's own thickness and the stop both come off the label size. That gap is the figure that matters, and a door sold as 32 inches gives less.
Lifting a door off its hinges wins back the thickness of the door. The code numbers are minimums for new construction, and a house built under an earlier code can differ either way, so the tape measure has the last word.
Cozzia massage chair widths, box sizes and weights
These figures come from the user manual Cozzia publishes for each chair, in inches. The box column gives the main carton's three sides, narrowest first. On all seven the narrowest side is the width, so standing a box on end gains nothing at a door.
| Chair | Width | Main box |
|---|---|---|
| Radiance | 30.0 | 31.5 x 34 x 59.9 |
| Bliss ProFlex | 29.1 | 30.7 x 47.9 x 52.2 |
| Fusion Pro | 29.7 | 30.7 x 49.6 x 52.4 |
| Zen 2 | 30 | 32.9 x 49.2 x 52.8 |
| Zen Duo | 30.7 | 32.5 x 51 x 53 |
| Qi XE Pro Duo | 32 | 33.5 x 41.7 x 58.5 |
| Quantum | 31.8 | 33.9 x 50.4 x 55.9 |
The three two-box chairs pack the footrest on its own. The Zen Duo's footrest box is 23.2 x 20.1 x 21.7 inches, and the Qi XE Pro Duo and Quantum each use a 22.4 x 21.9 x 25.4 inch box. Neither size gives any door trouble.
Cozzia's manuals don't describe taking the side panels off to slim a chair down, so the width in the table is the width to plan around.
Weight matters on stairs more than at the door. Here are the same manuals' figures in pounds, bare and boxed. For the two-box chairs the boxed weight covers both cartons together.
| Chair | Bare | Boxed |
|---|---|---|
| Radiance | 171 | 198 |
| Bliss ProFlex | 172 | 205 |
| Fusion Pro | 187.4 | 231.5 |
| Zen 2 | 194 | 227.1 |
| Zen Duo | 272 | 317 |
| Qi XE Pro Duo | 289.9 | 339.3 |
| Quantum | 293.6 | 334.9 |
Which Cozzia chairs clear a 32 inch opening in the box
A 32 inch clear gap is generous next to the code minimums, and it splits the Cozzia line into two groups. Three chairs go through boxed. The other four have to be unpacked before that door and carried in bare.
Through the door boxed
The Bliss ProFlex and Fusion Pro, both in 30.7 inch boxes, and the Radiance at 31.5. The Radiance carton leaves very little room for fingers at a 32 inch gap, so a door that measures a hair under 32 changes the plan.
Unpacked before the door
The Zen 2 at 32.9, then the base boxes of the Zen Duo at 32.5, the Qi XE Pro Duo at 33.5 and the Quantum at 33.9. Bare, the Zen 2 and Zen Duo pass with room to spare. The Quantum has a fifth of an inch, and the Qi XE Pro Duo is exactly 32.
A code-minimum bedroom door is 29.9 inches before the stop and the open door take their share. That can be too narrow for all seven chairs, even unboxed. A main-floor room with a wide doorway is the easier home for any of them, and the Qi XE Pro Duo needs a door measured twice.
Hallways, stairs and condo elevators between the door and the room
The front door is only the first squeeze. The same part of the code lets a hallway inside a home be 860 mm wide, about 33.9 inches. Where only bedrooms and bathrooms sit at the far end and there's a second exit, it can be 710 mm, about 28 inches. The Quantum's base box is 33.9 inches wide, the same as the usual hallway minimum.
Stairs between floors in a home can also be 860 mm wide, with 1,950 mm of headroom, about 76.8 inches. A handrail eats into that width, so the useful figure runs from the rail to the far wall. A chair carried up at an angle also needs the headroom at the lowest point overhead.
Turns are where the length counts. The main boxes run 52.2 to 59.9 inches long, and each one has to swing from a hallway through a side door. A narrow hall leaves little room to pivot, so the width of the hall right at the turn is worth writing down with the door itself.
Condos add an elevator. Its door width and the depth of the car both matter, because a long box may only fit standing on end. If the strata books or pads the elevator for deliveries, that booking comes before ours.
Weight is the other half of the job. The Zen Duo, Qi XE Pro Duo and Quantum manuals all say two people are needed to lift the chair. The bare chairs run 171 to 293.6 pounds.
When Rubeena and I were asked about the mistakes people make buying a sofa, not measuring the doorways and the elevator was our answer. A massage chair is the same problem with a heavier box, and the door check for a sofa works the same way. I would rather have your numbers before the order than after it.
How much space does a massage chair need?
A massage chair needs its reclined length, plus the gap Cozzia asks for behind it and the walking room it asks for in front. Each manual has a clearance drawing with space behind the backrest, 8 inches on each side, and 31.5 inches past the footrest at full recline. The Radiance asks for 15 inches in front instead.
In the table, all in inches, the recline column is the space behind plus the reclined length. The walkway column adds the front space, so it's the depth of floor the chair takes, measured out from the wall.
| Chair | Recline | Walkway |
|---|---|---|
| Radiance | 6 + 68.5 | 89.5 |
| Bliss ProFlex | 11 + 68.9 | 111.4 |
| Fusion Pro | 11 + 75.4 | 117.9 |
| Zen 2 | 6 + 73.6 | 111.1 |
| Zen Duo | 4 + 79.5 | 115 |
| Qi XE Pro Duo | 8 + 78 | 117.5 |
| Quantum | 2 + 74.7 | 108.2 |
Where two Cozzia documents disagree, we print the larger number. The Radiance manual gives 68.5 inches reclined, where Cozzia Canada lists 66.2. The Qi XE Pro Duo manual says 78 and Merit's product page says 75. The Quantum page says 74.7 against the manual's 74.4.
Behind the chair, the manuals ask 4 inches for the Zen Duo and 2 for the Quantum, where Merit's pages say 3.5 and 1. Side to side, the 8 inches each way brings the width to 45.1 inches for the Bliss ProFlex and 48 for the Qi XE Pro Duo.
The least floor a chair can recline in is its length plus the space behind, which is 83.5 inches for a Zen Duo. Cozzia's full figure for the Fusion Pro, 117.9 inches, is close to 10 feet of floor.
Measuring the route to the room before ordering
The route check takes a tape measure and a phone camera. These are the measurements that answer the fit question for any of the seven.
- Every door on the way. Open each one fully and measure from the face of the open door to the stop on the far side of the frame. The smallest number on the route is the one that counts.
- The hallway at its narrowest. A baseboard heater, a radiator or a coat hook takes width too.
- Each turn. The width of the hall where the chair swings into the room, and anything sitting right at the corner.
- The stairs. Rail to wall, the lowest point overhead, and whether a landing turns.
- The spot itself. Wall to the edge of the walkway, side to side, and the nearest outlet.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by the list, photos of each door and turn with the tape held across them do the same job. Bring them into Merit's Duncan store, or read us the numbers over the phone, and we'll check them against the chair.
Where a massage chair delivery goes wrong, and who a one-box chair suits
Stairs are mostly a weight problem. A two-box chair on a staircase with a turn is close to 300 pounds in a space built for people. If the room is upstairs, it helps to tell us when you order, along with the turn and the rail.
How do you move a massage chair later?
Moving one later is where the warranty comes in. Cozzia's warranty excludes damage from a dropped product and from transportation, and it says shipping and handling damage isn't a defect. A drop during a house move falls on the owner. The manuals show the chair tilted back onto its rear castors and rolled, and they warn the castors can mark a wood floor.
If a move or a rearranged room is likely in the next year or two, a one-box chair is easier to live with. The Radiance, Bliss ProFlex and Fusion Pro each arrive in one carton that clears a 32 inch gap.
The Qi XE Pro Duo is the wrong pick for a home with any door under 32 inches clear. A Quantum or Qi XE Pro Duo headed down a narrow condo hallway deserves a careful look at the floor plan first.
Massage chair delivery across the Island and to the Gulf Islands
From Merit's Duncan store, delivery across the Island is $150 and assembly is included. A Gulf Islands delivery reaches some islands only, and the Duncan store works out the details with you by phone before it's booked. When the order is ready, we call to book a time on our schedule, Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. Nanaimo, Campbell River and Port Alberni set their own delivery terms, so ask that store.
An old recliner can leave on the same trip, which frees the spot for the new chair. From Duncan, taking old furniture away is usually $25 to $50 a piece, and sometimes included. The visit itself is laid out in our walk through a Merit delivery day, and the delivery terms for every Duncan order sit on their own page.

Checking a massage chair's fit with the Duncan store
Bring the smallest door number, the hallway width and the wall-to-walkway depth, and we'll tell you which of the seven suit your route before you sit in any of them. Nobody will follow you around the showroom. All seven are sold through our Duncan store at 107 Ingram St, open Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5, so call first to ask which are set up to try.
Once the route is settled, the seven Cozzia chairs side by side help with the choice itself. Each chair's massage chair listing carries its dimensions, and every massage chair guide we've written sits on one page.
