Sealy is a coil and foam mattress maker. Sealy Canada says it has designed mattresses for Canadian families "Since 1881". Merit Home Furniture lists three Sealy mattresses today, and all three are carried at our Campbell River store.
The three are the Sealy Plus Jacob, the Sealy Plus Jayden and the Posturepedic Plus Jacob 15.5 in. Each is a wrapped coil bed under a Euro top or Euro pillow top. Campbell River also carries two Sealy foundations, and a call to that store gets our best price on any of the five.
Is it a good brand? For a buyer who wants a coil bed with a ten-year warranty, yes; each of the three listings names a 10-year limited warranty. Our Duncan store's mattresses come from two other makers, the Restwell mattress range and Restonic's mattress line. I read every spec below from our product pages on October 16, 2026.
Is a Sealy mattress a good choice for an Island bedroom?
A Sealy mattress suits the shopper who wants a familiar coil feel, a dealer to call when something goes wrong, and a warranty written for Canada. The three we list cover firm, medium and soft, in 14 and 15.5 inch heights.
The Sealy range on Merit's pages is small. Sealy Canada sells far more models than the three Campbell River carries. Anyone set on a Sealy line we do not list should ask Campbell River about it before planning around it.
Sealy belongs to Somnigroup, which names Tempur-Pedic, Sealy and Stearns & Foster among its brands. For a dense all-foam bed at a higher price, the sister brand Tempur-Pedic is the closer fit.
The Sealy beds and foundations we still list
All five are carried at our Campbell River store. The feel and warranty are the words on each product page.
| Listing | Feel and top | Height | Warranty listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sealy Plus Jacob | Soft, Euro pillow top | 15.5 in | 10 Year Limited Warranty |
| Sealy Plus Jayden | Firm, Euro top | 14 in | 10 Year Limited Warranty |
| Posturepedic Plus Jacob | Medium, Euro pillow top | 15.5 in | 10-year limited |
| Sealy 5 Low Profile Foundation | Low profile box foundation | 5 in | Not listed |
| Sealy 9 Foundation | Standard box foundation | 9 in | Not listed |
The Plus Jacob and Plus Jayden are listed in twin, twin XL, full, queen and king. The Posturepedic Plus Jacob is listed in queen and king only. Both foundations come in twin, twin XL, double, queen and king.
The Plus Jacob and Plus Jayden pages say little beyond individually wrapped pocket coils under an antibacterial treated cover. The Posturepedic Plus Jacob page says much more. It names a CleanProtect antibacterial cover, SealyComfort gel HD foam and a ProBack quilt with GelSense HD memory foam.
Sealy beds and foundations are priced by our Campbell River store. It quotes our best price by phone at (250) 286-0868, and can say which of the three is set up to lie on.
Sealy Posturepedic on a spring mattress: what the name means
Posturepedic is Sealy's name for extra support under the middle of the body. Sealy Canada says it was "Developed with orthopedic specialists in the 50s". The reasoning it gives is that "50% of your body weight rests in the middle while you sleep".
The support is added in a different way in each kind of mattress, in Sealy's own words:
- Spring: "Additional foam in the mattress quilt middle area."
- Foam: "Denser memory foam in the centre third of the mattress."
- Hybrid: "Premium foam and more coils in the middle area."
Of the three Sealy beds we list, only the Posturepedic Plus Jacob names the series. Its page describes "wrapped coils reinforced in the centre third", which is Sealy's middle zone in coil form. The Plus Jacob and Plus Jayden pages do not use the word, so check the law tag or ask Campbell River before counting on it.
The Posturepedic name is not a firmness. Sealy ties it to the middle third of the bed, and the one Posturepedic bed on our pages is labelled medium. How coil, foam and hybrid beds differ is a separate question from the support zone.
Where are Sealy mattresses made for the Canadian market?
Sealy Canada answers this for its whole range: "All of our mattresses are assembled in Canada with Canadian and US parts". Its warranty lists customer service at 145 Milner Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario.
That statement is about Sealy Canada's range as a whole, so we do not attach it to any one model. The law tag sewn to each mattress names the maker, and Sealy's warranty asks owners to keep it.
A Sealy bought in Canada carries a warranty that is "valid only in Canada". That is one reason to buy from a Canadian dealer, not across the border.
How long does a Sealy mattress last, and does Sealy honour its 10-year warranty?
A Sealy mattress lasts about as long as any quality mattress. Sealy Canada puts "The average life span of a quality mattress" at "eight to ten years". A ten-year warranty covers manufacturing defects over that span; it does not promise the comfort will stay the same. The signs a mattress is finished are the same for every brand.
Sealy honours its warranty on its own terms, and the terms are strict about support. Its Canadian warranty sets out what a claim needs:
- Original buyer. The claim must come from the original purchaser who bought from "an authorized dealer in Canada."
- Proof. A copy of the store receipt, or proof of date, retailer and price.
- Law label. The label from the mattress, so leave it on.
- Support. A queen or king frame needs "a rigid bridge-bar with at least 5 support legs," or 5 hardwood cross-slats with a centre leg.
The warranty also states that "A Sealy mattress must be supported by a Sealy boxspring or an approved lifestyle foundation". It excludes comfort preference, stains, floor models, delivery damage and transportation and inspection costs. Sealy also says body indentations "are a normal occurrence in new mattresses". Its schedule decides when one counts as a defect.
Sealy's first step for a problem is "contact the retail store where you purchased your sleep set". For a Sealy bought from our Campbell River store, that is Merit. We stand behind Sealy's warranty, order any parts and handle the repair. Past Sealy's own term, SmartOne from Zucora is our 5-year extended plan, and a Sealy mattress can go on it like anything else we sell. How maker warranties and extended plans fit together is laid out separately.
Sealy foundations and bases on our pages
Because the warranty leans on support, the base matters. Our Campbell River store carries the Sealy 9 Foundation and the Sealy 5 Low Profile Foundation, and prices them by phone. Both pages list a steel semi-flex grid, center support and Canadian spruce. The 9 lists a 1.5" kiln-dried spruce frame, and both give the steel gauge as Head to Toe 10 / Side to Side 11.
Duncan lists no Sealy foundation or base now, and no box spring from Restwell or Restonic. The Restwell bases listed there are the Peak and Pinnacle adjustable bases, and both sit in our bases and foundations collection.
Is Cocoon by Sealy worth buying in Canada?
Cocoon by Sealy is Sealy's boxed mattress line. Its Canadian site lists a Classic Firm, a Classic Soft and an Essential Medium. The site promises a "10 year warranty" and free shipping.
Merit no longer lists the Cocoon models, so this part is Sealy's description, not ours. Cocoon is worth a look for a guest room, a first apartment or a tight stairwell, where a rolled bed is easier to get in. It is less of a fit for someone who wants the coil bounce of the Sealy core line. Boxed beds against regular mattresses covers the trade in detail.
Sealy against Restonic, Serta and the other big mattress brands
How does Sealy compare to Restonic on coil count and edge support?
None of the three Sealy listings on Merit's pages publishes a coil count. Our Restonic listings do, so the table sets Sealy's coil and edge wording beside Restonic's numbers.
| Listing | Coils listed | Edge | Queen price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sealy Posturepedic Plus Jacob, 15.5 in | PostureGrid wrapped coils with PostureSense nano coils, no count | SolidEdge Pro border | Call Campbell River |
| Sealy Plus Jayden, 14 in | Individually wrapped pocket coil, no count | Not listed | Call Campbell River |
| Restonic Minto, 12.5 in | 884 Foam Encased Zoned Pocket Coil | Foam encased | $1,199.00 |
| Restonic Notte, 15 in | 1188 pocket coil plus 1425 Nano Coil | Foam encased | $1,688.00 |
A coil count only compares well within one size and one coil design, so treat it as a rough guide. The edge is the clearer split. Sealy's Posturepedic Plus page names a SolidEdge Pro border, while Restonic wraps its coils in foam. Restonic lists a 10-year non-prorated warranty, and both Restonic beds are listed for our Duncan store at those queen prices, before applicable taxes.
Which is better, Sealy or Serta?
Neither is better across the board, and Merit lists too few of either for a fair test. Our two Serta beds are 15-inch queen super pillow tops, and Campbell River carries those too, with our best price by phone. Sealy covers soft, medium and firm on our pages, against two Serta beds of one height, so Sealy gives a north Island coil buyer more to compare.
What are the top 5 best mattress brands?
No independent ranking settles it. By listing count on our mattress pages today, the national names run Beautyrest 9, Restonic 7, Tempur-Pedic 5, Sealy 3 and Serta 2. Restwell, with 8, falls between Beautyrest and Restonic, and all 8 Restwell mattresses are listed for our Duncan store. Beautyrest's coil lines are the closest match to Sealy, bed for bed.
Who a Sealy mattress is the wrong fit for
Anyone planning an adjustable base under an extra-firm bed. Sealy's warranty says it does "not recommend that extra-firm and integrated innerspring mattresses be used with adjustable bases". The Posturepedic Plus Jacob page says it is adjustable base compatible; the Plus Jacob and Plus Jayden pages do not say.
A sleeper who runs hot and wants foam. All three Sealy beds we list are coil beds. The Posturepedic Plus Jacob lists SealyAirSense fibres with SealyIce yarn and gel foam, but its support is still wrapped coil.
A shopper who needs a twin or full Posturepedic. The Posturepedic Plus Jacob is listed in queen and king only, so a smaller room means the Plus Jacob or Plus Jayden.
A south Island buyer who wants to lie on a Sealy first. Our Sealy beds are all at Campbell River, a long drive from Duncan or Victoria. A Restwell or Restonic listed for our Duncan store is closer, and a call to Duncan says what is set up.
