Ashley furniture is made in the United States and Vietnam, going by the plant list on Ashley's own dealer site. Ashley Furniture Industries is a family-owned American furniture maker, based in Arcadia, Wisconsin, that began as a sales company in Chicago in 1945. Not one of the plants it lists is in Canada.
On the Island this matters because Ashley is the biggest single maker among the furniture brands on our site. On October 16, 2026, Merit Home Furniture had 648 active Ashley listings out of 2,443, about one in four. I started in furniture in 2000 at an Ashley store in Kamloops, so the brand isn't new to me. What follows is Ashley's own account, what our listings say, and what the price buys.
Where is Ashley furniture made? The plants Ashley lists
Ashley's dealer site, ashley.biz, says the company runs "23 Global Manufacturing and Distribution Centers" with over 30,000,000 square feet under roof. It pictures 19 of them by name: 15 in the United States and four in Vietnam. Ashley labels every one a manufacturing and distribution centre. The page doesn't separate the sites that build furniture from the ones that store and ship it.
| Where | Sites pictured |
|---|---|
| Wisconsin | Arcadia, Chippewa Falls, Independence, Whitehall |
| Mississippi | Ecru, Ripley, Saltillo, Verona |
| California | Colton, Lathrop, Redlands |
| North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington | Advance, Leesport, Mesquite, Spanaway (one each) |
| Vietnam | Binh Duong City, My Phuoc 3, Quang Ngai, Tan Uyen |
| Canada | None listed |
Ashley's history page fills in a little more. It calls Verona, Mississippi a "Manufacturing facility" opened in 2013 and Mesquite, Texas a "Distribution facility" opened in 2015. The Vietnam plants date from 2008 in Tan Uyen District and 2012 in Binh Duong City. Ashley describes its approach as one that "blends and optimizes domestic and foreign production efforts".
Does Ashley make furniture in China or buy it from other factories?
Ashley built furniture in China in the past, and its current plant map shows no Chinese site. The company timeline says Ashley began "overseas trading and manufacturing" in 1984. It set up manufacturing in Kunshan, China in 1999, then a "powerhouse manufacturing and distribution facility in China" in 2002. Today's ashley.biz map shows only the United States and Vietnam.
Ashley also buys from outside makers. Its California supply chain statement says "Ashley's quality control inspectors visit our vendors' facilities regularly". Ashley Canada's about page says it uses a global supply chain "to source products from around the world". A given Ashley piece, then, may come from an Ashley plant or from a supplier's.
Ashley's own totals don't agree from one site to the next. The older corporate site, ashleyfurnitureindustriesllc.com, says 15 manufacturing and distribution facilities covering more than 13,000,000 square feet. The dealer site says 23. The places in the table above are the ones the dealer site pictures.
Is Ashley furniture made in Canada, and is Ashley a Canadian company?
Ashley furniture isn't made in Canada by any list Ashley publishes, and the maker is American. Its timeline says the head office moved from Chicago to Arcadia, Wisconsin in 1982. The Canadian part is retail. Ashley Canada says "Ashley stores in Canada are all Canadian-owned and operated" across 56 locations. That describes the HomeStores, the stores that sell only Ashley, and not the factories.
Merit isn't an Ashley HomeStore. Merit Home Furniture sells Ashley next to Canadian makers and others from our four Island stores.
Canada's Competition Bureau sets the bar for the label. A "Made in Canada" claim needs the last substantial transformation done here and at least 51% of direct costs spent here. It also needs a qualifier such as "Made in Canada with imported parts". "Product of Canada" needs 98% Canadian content. Nothing Ashley publishes puts its furniture over either line. None of our 648 Ashley listings names a country of origin, so there's no tag to check either.
Ashley furniture at Merit: the lines, the materials and the prices
Our Ashley listings name the Ashley line each piece belongs to. On October 16, 2026, the counts showed where the range sits. Signature Design by Ashley is the bulk of it. Of the 648, 360 can be bought through Duncan. The rest are carried in Campbell River or Port Alberni and show call to order.
| Line on the listing | Listings |
|---|---|
| Signature Design by Ashley | 378 |
| Benchcraft | 46 |
| Sierra Sleep | 6 |
| Ashley Sleep | 2 |
| Millennium | 1 |
The other listings don't name a line. Five pieces available through Duncan give a fair spread of price and build, all before applicable taxes.
| Piece | Price; materials |
|---|---|
| Stayfish recliner | $449.00 in every colour; reinforced frame, metal seat box, polyester cover |
| Shawburn chest | $449.00; engineered wood (MDF/particleboard/plywood) and decorative laminate |
| Clarington recliner | $699.00; one-pull recline, reinforced frame, metal seat box |
| Porter dresser and mirror | $1,149.00; veneers, wood and engineered wood, dovetailed drawers |
| Bovarian 3-piece sectional | $1,799.00; reinforced frame, polyester chenille, 128 inches wide |
The Porter is our one Millennium piece. Ashley's timeline says the Whitehall, Wisconsin plant opened in 1987 with finishing equipment for the Millennium line. The Porter listing doesn't say which plant built this dresser, and I won't guess.
Wood content is the other thing to read. 192 of our 648 Ashley listings name engineered wood in the materials. Nearly all of those are case goods, meaning the beds, tables, dressers and other wood pieces.
Why shop Ashley? What the price buys on the Island
Ashley's case is price, range and speed. Ashley orders take 4 to 6 weeks to be ready for pickup or delivery. Decor-Rest takes 8 to 10 weeks, and Island Living made to order takes 6 to 8. A Shawburn nightstand is $159.00, and a single Lonoke sectional sofa piece is $2,899.00. There's Ashley for nearly every room, which is why it fills so much of our site.
On warranty, 276 of our Ashley listings show 1 year. Nine of the 10 Ashley mattresses we list show a 10-year non-prorated warranty. Whatever the term, Merit backs the maker's warranty, orders the parts and does the repair, as the maker-by-maker warranty guide sets out. SmartOne from Zucora adds an extended plan of up to five years, on any Ashley piece we sell.
My line on imports is simple. A $1,000 sofa is worth $1,000 and a $2,000 sofa is worth $2,000, and the two aren't apples to apples. Ashley is good value for anyone on a budget, or anyone who likes to change the room every few years.
What furniture brands are made in Canada, if Ashley isn't?
Decor-Rest and Island Living are the two makers we list whose own sites tie their building to a Canadian address. Decor-Rest calls itself "a leading Canadian manufacturer of fine upholstery" and gives its address as Woodbridge, Ontario. Island Living says "every upholstery piece is handcrafted at our factory" and heads its contact page "Island Living" at 7885 Riverfront Gate, Burnaby. That covers the Island Living made to order range only. The Island Living in-stock range is made overseas for Island Living.
Mako Wood Furniture doesn't say where it builds. The Province of BC describes it as "a furniture producer in Surrey". The sofa makers who build in Canada are compared side by side in their own guide, and Island Living prices are given in store only.
If the choice is between an Ashley sofa and a Canadian one, the trade is time and money for origin. The Ashley range across our four stores covers the budget side by category.
When Ashley furniture is the wrong buy
Ashley is the wrong pick when Canadian-made is the reason for the purchase. By Ashley's own plant list, none of it qualifies.
It's also wrong for anyone who needs to know the exact factory. The listing won't tell you, and we can't either, because Ashley doesn't publish it per piece.
If solid wood matters, the materials line on each listing is the place to look. Only 43 of our Ashley listings mention solid wood anywhere in the description.
Big upholstery is heavy. The Bovarian sectional weighs 326 lbs across its three pieces, so it's worth checking whether each piece clears the front door before delivery day. Power pieces add a motor and a cord to plan for.
And a one-year warranty on most Ashley furniture is short next to the lifetime limited warranty Decor-Rest puts on its frames and springs. That's part of how the price stays where it is.

Seeing Ashley pieces in Duncan, Campbell River or Port Alberni
Our Duncan store is at 107 Ingram St and opens Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5. A call ahead is the way to find out which Ashley pieces are on display at our Duncan store. Room and door measurements help if a sofa is in the plan. Every Ashley piece we list is on our Ashley collection page with its dimensions.
Delivery of an Ashley order from Duncan is $150 across the Island, assembly included, and Gulf Islands orders are handled case by case, so call the store for details. Picking it up at Duncan is free. Ashley mattresses aren't sold through Duncan. All 10 are carried at our Port Alberni store, and a call there gets our best price. Campbell River, (250) 286-0868, and Port Alberni, (250) 724-6644, quote their own delivery terms. Merit's recliners from Ashley and other makers are compared in the recliner sizing and types guide. The rest of our makers are on the brands we sell, maker by maker.
