Decor-Rest Furniture Ltd. is a family-owned upholstery maker in Woodbridge, Ontario, on the north edge of Toronto. It builds sofas, loveseats, chairs, sectionals and ottomans, and describes itself as "a leading Canadian manufacturer of fine upholstery". Merit Home Furniture lists 123 Decor-Rest pieces on Vancouver Island, and 112 of them can be ordered through our Duncan store.
Is it good quality? On the maker's own specifications, yes. The frames are hardwood, every seat sits on steel sinuous springs, and the frame carries a lifetime limited warranty. The softer spot is the seat cushion, which Decor-Rest itself says will soften with use. The foam you order matters as much as the name on the tag.
Our listed prices run from $599.00 for an ottoman to $4,249.00 for a leather sofa, before applicable taxes. A Decor-Rest ordered in your cover takes 8 to 10 weeks to be ready for pickup or delivery.
Is Decor-Rest furniture good quality? What the maker says is inside
Decor-Rest quality comes down to four parts: the frame, the springs, the foam and the cover. The company lists the first three on its How It's Made page, and our product spec tables add the foam options for each frame. This is what a sofa is built from, by Decor-Rest's account.
| Part | What Decor-Rest says |
|---|---|
| Frame | Air or kiln dried North American maple or birch hardwood. Corners double doweled, corner blocked, glued and screwed. |
| Seat springs | 8 gauge no-sag sinuous springs, 5 per seat, plus a sling spring on sofas and loveseats |
| Back springs | 12 gauge sinuous springs behind channelled, fibre-filled backs |
| Spring clips | Polyresin, so metal never rubs on metal and squeaks |
| Seat foam | Soy-based foam made without CFCs; our spec tables show 1.9 lb standard with a firm option on most frames |
| Quality system | ISO 9001 |
A sinuous spring is a zigzag of steel wire running front to back under the seat. Gauge is wire thickness, and a lower number means thicker wire. ISO 9001 is the international standard for running a quality management system. It certifies the process, not the comfort of any one sofa.
What a spec sheet can't tell me is how a given seat will feel in year five. Decor-Rest is plain about that in its warranty: seat cores "will soften with normal use and will conform to the shape of the user". Fibre-filled backs and arms flatten too, and the company says regular fluffing slows it. If you want a seat that stays firm longest, the firm foam option is the one to ask about.
Which Canadian furniture maker builds the best quality?
I don't know of a fair ranking of Canadian furniture makers, so any single name would be a sales line. For sofas, the useful question is how each maker builds and sells. We carry two Canadian sofa makers, and how Decor-Rest and Island Living compare on frames, covers and wait times is laid out in its own guide. Island Living runs two programs: a made-to-order line built in Burnaby, BC, and an in-stock line made overseas for Island Living. Island Living's two lines are explained separately, since only one of them is Canadian made.
Is Decor-Rest furniture made in Canada? The company's own account
Decor-Rest's upholstery is built in Woodbridge, Ontario, according to the company's history page. It was incorporated in 1972 by Angelo and Christina Marzilli, who rented their first factory at 40 Wabash Avenue in Toronto. After three more Toronto moves, the family bought land at 511 Chrislea Road in Woodbridge in 2000 and built there. The company now describes "a 250,000 sq. ft. base of operations in Woodbridge, Ontario." Its president, Angelo Marzilli Jr., credits a team of more than 350 craftspeople and administrators.
There is one thing to know before taking "made in Canada" as true of every piece with the name on it. Decor-Rest's timeline says it began importing accents from around the world in 2005. Its Marzilli International collection is, in the company's words, "designed and sourced from partners around the world". Its website lists imported chairs, tables, storage and accessories alongside the upholstery.
So the sofas, sectionals and chairs Decor-Rest calls its own manufacturing come out of Woodbridge, by its account. For any one piece, we can confirm on the order which line it comes from. That is a fair question to ask about a $2,000 sofa, and the answer costs nothing.
Decor-Rest prices at Merit, by type
These are the 99 priced Decor-Rest pieces Merit's Duncan store can order, read from our product pages on October 9, 2026. Prices are before applicable taxes, and the range takes in leather covers where a page lists one.
| Type | Pieces | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| Chairs | 40 | $749.00 to $1,999.00 |
| Sofas | 37 | $1,349.00 to $4,249.00 |
| Sectionals | 11 | $1,099.00 to $2,249.00 |
| Loveseats | 6 | $1,499.00 to $3,149.00 |
| Ottomans | 5 | $599.00 to $1,049.00 |
Twenty-three of those pages list two prices, one in fabric and one in leather. On the 2003 sofa that is $1,549.00 in fabric and $2,899.00 in leather. The fabric price is the entry cover, so a different fabric can move it. Another 13 Duncan pieces show "Call for Best Price" instead of a number.
Eleven more Decor-Rest listings are held only at our Campbell River or Port Alberni stores and show "call to order". The 2179 double sofa bed, the only Decor-Rest sleeper we list, is $2,799.00 and can be ordered through Duncan or Campbell River.
What is the comfiest sofa in Canada? Measure the seat, not the brand
The comfiest sofa in Canada is the one whose seat fits the person sitting in it. Two numbers decide most of that: seat depth, from the front edge to the back cushion, and seat height, from the floor to the top of the cushion. Decor-Rest builds both shallow and deep seats, so the brand alone answers nothing. Seven pieces Duncan can order show the spread.
| Piece | Seat depth | Seat height | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2114 chair | 19 in. | 18 in. | $1,299.00 |
| 3855 leather sofa | 21 in. | 19 in. | $4,249.00 |
| 2382 sofa | 22 in. | 19 in. | $1,349.00 |
| 2455 loveseat | 22 in. | 19 in. | $1,599.00 |
| 2702 sofa | 25 in. | 17 in. | $1,699.00 |
| 2875 sectional | 27 in. | 17 in. | $1,899.00 |
| 2991 chair | 28 in. | 20 in. | $1,449.00 |
A shallow seat around 19 to 22 inches lets a shorter person sit all the way back with both feet on the floor. A deep seat of 25 inches or more suits someone who sits sideways or tucks their legs up. A low seat, like the 17 inches on the 2702, sinks you lower and takes more effort to stand from. The standard sofa measurements are worth reading before you choose a depth.
Fill changes the feel as much as the frame. The 2702 and 2875 use a 2 lb high-resiliency soft foam core, with 1.9 lb standard as an option. The 2382 and 2455 start on 1.9 lb standard foam, with firm as an option. Comfort has more parts than depth and fill, and the parts of comfort beyond depth and fill are measured in another guide.
The Decor-Rest warranty, and who handles a claim on the Island
Decor-Rest's limited warranty goes to the original buyer only and does not transfer. In the first year, on approval, the company pays reasonable labour and the shipping to and from repair. After that, most coverage drops to replacement parts.
| Part | Decor-Rest coverage |
|---|---|
| Frame | Lifetime limited; parts only after year one |
| Springs | Lifetime limited; parts only after year one |
| Mechanisms | 3 years; parts only in years 2 and 3 |
| Electronics | 1 year |
| Foam cushion cores | 5 years limited; cores only after year one |
| Fabric | 1 year (5 years on its Majestic fabrics) |
| Leather | 2 years |
Decor-Rest defines lifetime as the normal useful life of the product. The leather coverage excludes fading from direct sunlight, improper cleaning, and the crushed nap that velvet develops by nature. Decor-Rest's warranty page lists these exclusions under leather, not fabric, so sun through a south-facing window is a fair question to ask us about before picking a fabric cover.
On every Decor-Rest we sell, Merit stands behind the maker's warranty. If a Decor-Rest frame or spring fails, we order the parts and do the repair, so the claim starts with a call to us. SmartOne from Zucora is the extended plan we offer, for 5 years, and a Decor-Rest sofa or chair can carry one like any other piece. How claims and repairs work at Merit is set out on its own page.
How a Decor-Rest order works through our Duncan store
A Decor-Rest order through Duncan follows the same six steps every time, from picking the frame to the day it is delivered.
- The frame and size. Some styles come in more than one length. The 3855 leather sofa is listed at 79 inches, and Decor-Rest makes the same style at 86 and 94 inches.
- The cover. Pick from Decor-Rest's fabric and leather library. The company says it uses only 100% top grain cowhide on its upholstered lines.
- The seat foam. Standard, firm or soft, depending on the frame's options.
- The deposit. A Decor-Rest built in your cover is a special order, and it takes a 24% deposit.
- The wait. Decor-Rest takes 8 to 10 weeks to be ready for pickup or delivery. What happens when an order runs late is covered in its own guide.
- Delivery. From Duncan it is $150 across the Island, assembly included. Some Gulf Islands are reachable after a call to the store, and pickup at Duncan is free.
Exchanges are encouraged up to 30 days and handled case by case. We finance. Ask us how.* The plans come through Fairstone®, and the Duncan store can take you through them.
*On approved credit. Terms and conditions apply. An annual fee will be charged to your account as set out in the Retail Credit Agreement. See our Financing page for more details about our plans.
Who Decor-Rest is the wrong choice for
Decor-Rest is a poor fit if the sofa has to arrive this month. An order in your cover takes 8 to 10 weeks from the day it is placed.
It is a risk for a cover that sits in full sun all afternoon. The warranty excludes sun fading, so a light fabric or a lined curtain matters more than the brand.
It is the wrong buy for someone who expects the seat to feel new forever. Decor-Rest calls softening cushion cores normal wear, not a defect. Anyone selling the sofa on should know the warranty stays with the first buyer.
Recliner shoppers have fewer choices here. Five of the Decor-Rest pieces Duncan can order are recliners, including the M8508PH reclining sofa at $3,599.00. The rest are stationary.

Seeing a Decor-Rest before you order one
Our Duncan store is at 107 Ingram Street, open Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5. The 2455 loveseat and the 3855 leather sofa are listed as on display at our Duncan store. What else is set up changes, so a call first tells you which frames and covers you can sit on that day.
For the pieces held up the Island, call Campbell River at (250) 286-0868 or Port Alberni at (250) 724-6644. Every Decor-Rest piece Merit lists has its size and price on its page. The other makers that build in this country are on our guide to furniture built in Canada.
